March the 2006 Pasadena Doo Dah Parade on 11/19 with us!

The Original, Occasional, and Eccentric Pasadena Doo Dah Parade Celebrates its 30 Year Anniversary, and our American Laughter Clubs Delegation will be a proud part of it!

Over 1,500 participants in over 100 entries will appear in Pasadena Doo Dah’s 30th Occasional Anniversary. America’s favorite “other parade,” known for its colorful and irreverent satire is a spoof on the New Year’s Day Rose Parade. 45,000 typically attend the annual pre-Thanksgiving event, which was named by The Reader’s Digest as the Nation’s Best Parade in 2004.

Here is the plan:

  1. We regroup in Memorial Park, Pasadena, between 9:30am and 10:00am and have a 1h laughter club session in the waiting area BEFORE the event to attract the attention of roaming journalists & TVs, as well of course as help us and all the other participants to warm up for their act.
  2. We march the 1 mile stretch carrying signs saying "Laugh For No Reason", "Laughter Is The Best Medicine", "Laugh First Think Later", "Laughing Is Ha Ha Ha Healthy", etc.

That's it.

Interested? Great! There is no pre-requisite beyond that of being committed to smile a lot (and of course laugh if you feel like it). We will gather afterwards in a local park for a picnic (bring to share) and an afternoon of fun and non-competitive games.

Registering is easy! Please send us an email at laugh@laughangeles.com or call us at 626 755 5999. We will tell you how to operate from there. Cost of entry is $10/walker.

It is important for us that you register ahead of time in order to simplify our group registration with the Parade organizers (the event security people will not allow anybody to walk without a registration sticker).

Vision: 50,000 to laugh for peace in L.A. on May 6, 2007

Dreaming is inexpensive, so here is the plan: gather 50,000 people in Los Angeles, California, to laugh for World Peace, representing 150 different nationalities or more, speaking 90 different languages or more, representing 250 different religions or more. The current world record stands at 10,000 (Copenhagen, Denmark, Jan. 2000).

First All American L.Y. Conference A Great Success!

The First All American Laughter Yoga Conference was held on Sept.8 - 10, 2006, in the beautiful ocean town of Oceanside, California. 74 participants came from all four corners of North America, Mexico and as far as Brazil.

It was fun, a lot of it, and yet this does not start to begin explaining how it felt. We laughed much and often, and through it built avenues into human kindness and togetherness. One participant described the process as shifting from "logistic to holistic". Several shared that the week-end had touched and transformed their lives for the better. Deep friendships were formed and tears shed when time came to say goodbye.

The program started on Friday evening with live music entertainment over dinner, followed by a fun and dance party and an open competition for the much coveted titles of America's 2006 Most Infectious Laugher and America's 2006 Most Horrible Zinger. 8 different inspiring workshops on specific subjects took place on Saturday where Laughter Yoga experts shared their experience, views and visions with the group. Another party and open competitions completed that day with the nomination of the Most Horrible Group Singers, Most Outlandish Gibberish Zingers and Goofiest Fashion Ensemble.

Dr. Kataria gave an inspiring talk on Sunday morning and closed the event by handing out Laughter Yoga Ambassador Awards to reward the dedicated and selfless service of individuals who worked in 2005-2006 to promote Laughter Yoga throughout the Americas.

Coming & Going in Los Angeles: Downtown + Westwood Laughter Clubs currently on hold

I guess the appropriate expression here is "c'est la vie". The Los Angeles Laughter Club (Westwood Park, 1350 S Sepulveda Blvd) and Angelinos Laughter Club (Downtown Los Angeles) are currently on hold until further notice. We tried. Keep posted for news about Laughter Yoga happenings on the Los Angeles West-Side! It may take some time and the area will in time thrive with Laughter Clubs. No jokes.

Please contact Certified L.Y. Leader Kim Selbert (310 471 5773) to attend a for fee Laughter Yoga class in Santa Monica in November-December.

The Pasadena Laughter Club carries the torch and is currently the only Laughter Club in the Los Angeles area. We laugh every Friday 6-7pm at 553 S Lake Avenue in Pasadena (same day same time same place since March 2005). All are welcome!

  • Empower individuals to start and run a Laughter Club as well as other therapeutic laughter activities, both with the general public and special needs groups (e.g. children, seniors, etc.)
  • Show people how to add more laughter into their lives by helping them understand the underlying principles of the "Inner Spirit Of Laughter"
  • Show people how to release tension in a safe and positive manner.

New Laughter CD: HA! 70 minutes of free-flow laughter

Ha! Laughter Workout CD - 70 min. Of Spontaneous Laughter. An outstanding audio laughter CD if you ask us, and of course you may say our view is biased. Still, we love this CD.

Overcome Negative Conditions By Positive Thinking
Excerpt from Sri Daya Mata's "Overcoming Character Liabilities"

"Negative thinking is a cancer on the soul [...]. Positive thinking is absolutely essential to success in any endeavor, and particularly so on the spiritual path.

In this world of relativity, there are two sides to everything. One side of a hand or a coin, for example, could not exist with the other. Similarly, there are two ways to look at every situation: positive and negative. Always be sure that you look on the positive side. Never allow yourself to wallow in negation; for if you do, you will have no inner peace, and you will find it very difficult indeed to commune with God."
